FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Most questions we get from potential clients are related to new home construction or residential remodeling projects. Here are answers to 10 frequently asked questions. If you have a question that’s not covered here, give us call. We look forward to talking with you!

  • What are the advantages of using a contractor for a home remodel rather than doing it myself?

DIY remodeling can work for certain homeowners. But hiring a contractor has several advantages. We are the experts in home renovation and know how to solve complex issues that are likely to come up during the project. We also can help with the project design, offer guidance in the selection of materials, and ensure a professional finish that’s difficult to achieve on your own. Using a contractor typically means your project will be finished faster with less stress – and it can even save you money in the long run.

  • How long will it take you to finish our home renovation?

That’s a difficult question to answer. It depends on multiple factors, including the scope of the project, how quickly we get feedback from you, whether we encounter unexpected issues that we need to solve, and the weather if it’s an outdoor project. We’ll give you an estimated date of completion and we’ll do our best to meet that deadline. We have a reputation for staying on schedule. But understand that some projects can be delayed because of issues beyond our control.

  • How long does it take for new home construction?

Custom home construction takes time, especially when you include the time it takes to plan the project properly. We are sticklers for planning – which can cut down on surprises and changes during construction phase. We could meet with you up to a dozen times before we even start the build process. We’ll give you an estimated finish date. But just like home remodels, the time it takes for new construction varies depending on factors such as timeliness of your feedback, weather, supply and permit issues, etc.

  • Is there a time of year that’s best to schedule a home improvement project?

We work on projects year-round. Of course, in winter, we are mostly working indoors. If you’re doing a home addition, especially one that requires foundation work, or an outdoor project such as patio, deck, or lakeside dock, it’s best to start in spring, summer or early fall.

  • When can you start my project?

Of course, we’d love to start your project immediately. But the reality is, it depends our workload and the scope of your project. It’s best to contact us at 217-430-4490 to consult about your project, and then we’ll give you an estimate of when we can get started.

  • I want to remodel, but I’m not sure about the design. Can you help with ideas?

Yes! We have a creative team of professionals who can give you lots of ideas for your project. In fact, we enjoy the challenge. You can also get some ideas by viewing photos of some of our favorite projects. Browse through our residential project gallery here.

  • What are the latest trends in kitchen remodeling?

When it comes to designing your dream kitchen, the style, colors, and materials you incorporate are a matter of personal taste. In terms of function, though, we recommend thinking about how you use your kitchen and planning elements and a floor plan to suit your needs. You might consider creating work zones for various tasks – food prep, cooking, cleaning – if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen. If you don’t cook a lot but love to entertain, a kitchen island or bar area are good options. Don’t forget about storage and lighting – there numerous solutions to make your kitchen both beautiful, functional, and organized.

  • Can you transform my bathroom into a more luxurious space?

We’ve worked on numerous bathroom remodels, and we can absolutely turn your outdated or drab bathroom into a more luxurious, spa-like space, no matter the size of your space. Elements such as tile flooring, along with more modern lighting and finishes, are simple changes that can elevate the feel of your room. We can also turn your traditional tub or tub/shower combo into a spectacular shower space with gorgeous floor and wall designs, built-in shelves and seating, and luxury shower heads.

  • What should I consider before adding a room to my home?

Your family is growing, and you need a new bedroom, bathroom, playroom, or family room. You want to create a master suite or a mudroom. You need to add a space for a parent or in-law. You’d like to bring more sunlight in, and think a sunroom is the answer. You’re ready to add something fun – a game room or home theater. Whatever the reason for a room addition, we can make it a reality for you. Among the things to consider before starting are your budget, the necessary permits, and whether local zoning and building codes will affect the project. Not to worry, though, we can help you through the entire process.

  • Can I live in my home during the remodeling process?

Yes, we take steps to limit any inconvenience and intrusions during the construction process. Staying at home has obvious advantages like saving on hotel costs, being able to check on the progress regularly, and being available to provide feedback when we need it. Of course, you should realize that with any construction project there will be noise, dust, and people in your home all day!
